The preview is black.
If the browser granted permission but the picture is black, another app usually has the camera (video-call apps hold it even when minimized), or a privacy shutter or keyboard shortcut has disabled it. The error message under the button names the cause the browser reported.
It says 640×480 but my webcam is 1080p.
The test asks the camera for 1080p and shows what it actually delivered. A lower figure means the browser, a USB bandwidth limit, or a driver setting is capping it -- try a different USB port (USB 3 if available) and close other camera apps.
Is the video uploaded anywhere?
No. The stream is displayed in this tab only. Snapshots are rendered to an image in the page and are never sent to a server.
Why is the image mirrored?
Mirroring is on by default because that's how people expect to see themselves. Turn it off to see what the other side of a call sees -- text on a shirt reads correctly in that view.
