Mouse Test

Every button, the scroll wheel, double-click timing, and movement, in one box. Right-click is captured so it doesn't open a menu.

No permissions. Works with mice, trackpads, and trackballs.

Move events per second is capped by your browser and display, not just the mouse: most browsers deliver at most one pointer event per frame (60 on a 60 Hz screen, 120-144 on faster ones), so a 1000 Hz gaming mouse still reads as your refresh rate here. A double-click gap under ~500 ms is what most systems accept as a double-click; an unintended second click at 20-80 ms means a worn switch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I tell if my mouse is double-clicking on its own?

Click once, slowly, in the test box and watch the double-click gap. If a single press shows a gap of 20-80 ms, the switch bounced and sent two clicks -- the classic worn-switch fault. A real double-click by a person is usually 150-400 ms apart.

My scroll wheel shows the wrong direction.

macOS "natural scrolling" and some mouse drivers invert the wheel on purpose; the test reports what the browser received after those settings. Check the OS setting before blaming the mouse.

Why is "move events per second" so much lower than my mouse's polling rate?

Browsers coalesce pointer movement to roughly one event per screen frame, so a 1000 Hz mouse reads about 60 on a 60 Hz display and 120-144 on faster ones. This number tells you the browser is receiving smooth input; it isn't a polling-rate meter.

Do the back and forward buttons work here?

Yes -- buttons 4 and 5 are captured inside the test box. Outside it they'll navigate your browser history as usual.
